Fabric Write up:
Jamdani is a traditional weave of West Bengal and an exquisite example of handloom clothes. It is a time-consuming and labor-intensive form of weaving because of the richness of its motifs, which are created directly on the loom using the discontinuous weft technique. The jamdani which we have used has our signature Bindi motif woven on it which makes it even more exclusive.
Khesh weaving is a tradition that has been practiced for a couple of years now. The weaving technique essentially involves tearing old sarees into thin strips - the warp has the new thread and the weft uses the thin strip of saree. The weavers collect cotton sarees, and women patiently tear them into multiple long strips. It is up to the weaver to match the warp with the weft and create the design. This technique of weaving with shreds of old sarees, called khesh, started at Shilpa Sadan in the early 1920s. Both of these finished fabrics are highly breathable and make a wonderful choice for sustainable clothing.
