Prathaa sets a fresh mood with the very first collection of 2023, welcoming happy sunshine of summers in the comfort and style of the Shvet - the enchanting whites, interpreted in their much-awaited Signature Bindi Collection of the year.
...
This year Prathaa’s Bindi collection celebrates the purity of the soul in every human while respecting the external imperfections that are relative, transient, and superficial.
2022 has been a year of healing and bouncing back, after the years of pandemic downtime. Embracing the love received from all of you prathaawomen, we are energized to rewrite a new and more interesting story from 2023 onwards and upwards. A year of alignment to the larger vision of the brand, with our community of Prathaa women, our team along with the extended team of loom artists and artisans … we have chosen Shvet to re-write our story with flexibility, fun, and blossom in its creativity.
With this collection, we have kept the colors and silhouettes in mind to be able to provide all of you, our prathaawomen, the freedom to redefine and innovate your personal style with a neutral color palette and size-agnostic designs.
Shvet can have several levels of interpretation-purity, Innocence, a blank canvas, presence of divinity …and much more. We think it is ALL and yet NONE. It’s the presence of everything, every possible emotion and all thought yet nothing is visible, since it reflects out all unnecessary baggage and brings in the light and happy feelings.
The Power or as we call it shakti of our signature Bindi stands out in the comfort of handwoven cotton along with the delicate bead and shell work. This first Collection of the year 23’ is an amalgamation of two inspirations- one, the versatility of a blank slate, along with the power and steadfastness of “Bindi'' in the Indian Tradition. The garments with design details such as frills, layers, fluidity, and flares bring in the soft feminine energy with the fluidity of thought, free-flowing and fun and the bright red bindi brings forward the firmness and strength of the extraordinary energy any woman possesses. It is this beautiful balance of the vulnerable and unshakable attribute of a woman that stands as the foundation thought on the idea board of the collection...
About Fabric: The canvas weave is 84 counts of mulmul cotton in 2 ply which is very fine and soft, combined subtly and playfully with the classic Jamdani weave to highlight a few elements. Jamdani is a traditional weave of West Bengal. It is a time consuming and labor-intensive form of weaving because of the richness of its motifs, which are created directly on the loom using the discontinuous weft technique. The jamdani which we have used has our signature Bindi motif woven into it which makes it even more uncommon. Both the finished fabrics are highly breathable and make a wonderful choice for the summer.
About Handwork: As a practice, we celebrate Prathaa’s anniversary month with the launch of the Bindi collection by celebrating our very purpose of being, so we explore a new weave or art form with our signature bindi motif. In 2023 we worked on a new technique altogether- hand embroidery techniques such as beadwork, Kantha, and cross stitches along with different materials like beads, shell buttons, and sea shells. The motif has been created in different sizes using the gradation method. We have used threads and beads to give structure to the motif, and thread, beads, and buttons as the filling. We have even explored the placement of the motif per different sizes. One will get to see intricate detailing of beads, french knots, MOP buttons, shells, and Kantha work on the neckline, pockets, collar, and sleeves. All of this and every piece is hand embroidered with Love.
Enjoy the pristine fluidity of the designs, and let’s start on a clean slate by re-writing our stories in our own personal unique style. Let’s breathe, float and celebrate ourselves in Shvet - the Enchanting Whites...
