Fabric Write up:
Handloom fabrics are crafted on a loom where the artisan adds each warp and weft by hand. Due to the human handling of the weave, the fabric is softer and drapes beautifully. Handwoven cotton is more breathable, allowing for better air penetration and absorbency, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
We believe that handloom fabrics are a lifestyle, making a strong value statement! Prathaa works tirelessly to promote and support the revival of handloom weaves, carrying the love and emotions woven into each piece of fabric.
The handloom khesh weave is integral to our sustainability story. Our exploration and understanding of this unique fabric began with a visit to West Bengal’s Birbhum district. There, weavers collect cotton sarees, and local women patiently tear them into multiple long strips.
These thin strips are then incorporated into new fabric. The weaver sits intently at their handloom, twisting and adding the thin strips of the sarees to fresh warp threads, to create the upcycled khesh weave.
The fabric develops stripes that can sometimes differ in color from meter to meter. This “beautiful irregularity” is precisely its uniqueness.
Ikat is a fabric that is crafted by resist-dyeing the yarns before weaving the fabric. After the yarns are repeatedly dyed, they are woven into cloth, resulting in beautiful, often blurred patterns. The weavers are extremely skilled and work efficiently on a handloom to create this stunning fabric.
