Durga Puja 2026: Dressing for Ashtami, Navami and the Vijaya Dashami Goodbye
Durga Puja 2026 · Styling Edit
Ashtami, Navami and Dashami each carry their own mood — Sandhi Puja is not Navami is not the goodbye of Dashami.

The short answer
Maha Ashtami falls on October 19, Navami on October 20 and Vijaya Dashami on October 21 in 2026 (per the Bengali Durga Puja panchang; some regional Dussehra calendars mark the equivalent day slightly differently). Dress more formally for Ashtami's Sandhi Puja, wear red for Navami's celebrations, and choose something easier to move in for Dashami's visarjan and sindoor khela.
If the first two days of Durga Puja are about easing in, the last three are its emotional centre — Sandhi Puja on Ashtami, the biggest feast on Navami, and the bittersweet farewell on Dashami. Each one has its own mood, worth dressing a little differently for.
Here's a styling guide for the closing stretch, drawn from our Festive Collection and Best Sellers.
1. Ashtami, for Sandhi Puja
Sandhi Puja is a precise, solemn ritual observed at the junction of Ashtami and Navami, and many people dress more formally for it than for a regular pandal visit. A black jamdani saree with a woven bindi border suits the gravity of the moment without distraction.

Understated and elegant — right for a quieter, more solemn ritual.
2. Navami, for the biggest celebration day
Navami is usually when celebrations peak — bigger feasts, performances, extended family all in one place. Red carries obvious symbolic weight through Durga Puja, echoing the goddess's own iconography, and a red dhoti-style saree brings that intensity while staying practical for a long day of sitting and socialising.

Red for the day the celebrations actually peak.
3. Dashami, for the farewell and the crowd
Dashami combines an emotional farewell to the goddess with a genuinely active day — the visarjan procession and, in many Bengali households, sindoor khela. A three-tier flared dress keeps a festive note while offering more ease of movement than a saree.

More ease of movement for a day that's part ritual, part procession.
Pace yourself through the final stretch
By Ashtami, most people are three or four days into pandal-hopping and late nights, which is exactly when lightweight, breathable handloom starts to matter more than it did on day one. Choosing fabrics that don't add to the fatigue makes it easier to actually be present for the parts of Durga Puja that matter most.
