The Bindi Collection, is Prathaa’s signature collection, celebrates every year, the successful journey of Prathaa towards the sustainable fashion dream as well as its birthday month, when the first step to this noble mission was taken. Our Main Focus and Strength

An honest and simple revelation of the most commonly asked question: “Why Bindi?” It is not merely a design element for us; it goes much deeper, establishing our very existence.

The big round red Bindi has become the closest identity of Prathaa, over the years, taking us back to where it all started. More importantly, it answers “Why” Prathaa, began in the first place.

Our Founder has shared the story of Prathaa's inception on multiple forums, emphasizing the conviction in the “Why” of Prathaa and Bindi as its brand identity. It was conceived as a creative platform to provide sustainable livelihoods to our family of weavers and artisans, the talents behind India’s heritage art and weaves. Alongside this, we also aim to evolve a community of #prathaawomen who love, understand, respect, and cherish Indian heritage art/weaves and are mindful and conscious about their purchases.

“It is generally a tough and confusing scenario when we believe in the 'Why,' the purpose of our work (sometimes more than ourselves), with blurry lines of how and what, when we decide to proceed,” reflects Sukanya, our Founder, on her feelings during the early days when the idea of Prathaa, as vision, kept her awake at night.

The deeper we dived, the more lost the feeling was. Scribbling mindlessly became a stressbuster. In one such moment, the Founder of this stylish and unique women's clothing brand, Prathaa, experienced a certain solace while mindlessly scribbling shapes. Among them, the round shape brought immense focus, which her fidgety brain had been missing since the idea set in. Coloring and filling it with red felt empowering and immersed her in an innate strength of faith, never giving up on her dream.

A dream that had already started giving her sleepless nights.

“Focus and strength were all I needed to take the first step to create something from the small yet powerful idea planted in my mind and heart. This led to the creation of Prathaa - Weaving Traditions,” she says. The dots and lines (referring to the existing Bindi) gradually brought in aesthetic elements and formalized the logistics and processes of Prathaa, ensuring seamless functioning.

“The Red Bindi became part of the brand and the dream, even before the name Prathaa was coined,” our Founder says. Growing up, she passively observed the Red Bindi enhancing the personalities of women around her, incorporating it into her aesthetic sensibilities. The historical significance of the red bindi resonated wonderfully with the core values and brand language of Prathaa.

From this point, the process started falling into place like a jigsaw puzzle. There was clarity in what needed to happen to bring the idea to life. When it was time to graphically represent the brand, the Red round bindi, from where it all blossomed, became the foundation, providing the team with focus and strength to serve our purpose and community of #prathaawomen and family of weavers/artisans.

The Bindi, along with all its traditional interpretations, had a new meaning in our lives.

Every year around our anniversary month, we pay tribute to ourselves and everyone part of our journey by re-creating the Bindi in various artistic or woven forms. This celebration of our journey is also a grounding exercise for our Founder, Sukanya Bhattacharya, and Team Prathaa, pledging to keep learning (unlearning/relearning), creating, and growing in our Conscious Fashion Space, nurturing our community of weavers/artisans and #prathaawomen, without ever swaying from the core “Why” of Prathaa - Weaving Traditions.

This slow commitment to a consciously mindful lifestyle has led to the creation of an eco-friendly, ethical, sustainable fashion brand.

Prathaa’s range of sustainable clothing started with women’s clothing, including handloom cotton dresses (casual/semi-formal/formal midi and maxi dresses for women), tunics, and tops for women. We also create interesting handloom cotton jackets for versatile styling and layering, including long coats, formal blazers, and casual jackets. Our comfortable and chic handloom cotton bottom wear includes skirts, formal ankle-length pencil pants, and casual designs like palazzos, balloon pants, layered pants, drop-crotch pants, dhoti pants, and many other fun designs.

The quintessential six yards “sarees” and blouses are definitely not to be missed. Our exclusive ready-made handloom cotton printed, woven, and plain sarees, along with our lovingly designed handloom cotton saree blouses, are versatile enough to be styled as crop tops or jackets.
